CREA organised 'Inspiring to Aspire: Encouraging Young Women to Seize Leadership Opportunities—An Open Forum' in collaboration with Women's Empowerment Link (WEL). It was attended by over 100 people from various organisations in Kenya, working on issues related to human rights, women's rights, and gender.

 

The Open Forum was convened with young and older leaders to discuss how to create and seize opportunities, face challenges, and mentor young women leaders in the political arena. The event was moderated by Grace Mbugua (Founder and Director, WEL). The speakers includedLink for.....

Delhi, India

CREA organised a panel discussion on sexuality, gender, and rights in the context of the 11 December 2013 Supreme Court judgement upholding Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code. The speakers for the event were Ruth Vanita (University of Montana), Carole Vance (Columbia University), Shohini Ghosh (Jamia Millia Islamia), Arvind Narrain (Alternative Law Forum), and Geetanjali Misra (CREA). The event was attended by over 70 people.

Gurgaon, India

The eighth SGRI Hindi was held from 3 to 8 February 2014 in Gurgaon, India. Twenty-nine women activists from Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, India, and Kathmandu, Nepal attended the Institute.

 

The goal of the Institute is to examine the principles of sexuality and the inter-linkages between sexuality, gender, and reproductive health and rights. It builds an understanding of the basics of gender and sexuality, and their links to issues related to reproductive health, disability, laws, and sex work. This year’s InstituteLink for.....

On 22 January 2014, CREA organised a conversation with Shereen El Feki, renowned British journalist and author, on her recent book Sex and the Citadel: Intimate Life in a Changing Arab World. Shereen read out excerpts from her book and shared her views on the sexual lives of men and women in Egypt and across the region, in the backdrop of the current political changes in the Arab world. She shared her personal, and often humorous, experiences from her five years of ground-breaking research across the region.

SGRI India (English) was held from 11 to 17 January 2014 in Khandala, Maharashtra, India. Twenty-three development practitioners from across India participated in what was a lively and challenging exchange. Organisations and institutions such as TARSHI, Navsarjan Trust, SNEHA, Jindal Global Law School, TISS, Karnatka Health Promotion Trust, NEEDS, Foundation for Social Transformation were amongst the range that was represented.
