CREA works with activists and women leaders to advance women’s human and sexual rights from a feminist perspective. One of our strategies is to organise Institutes which are usually a week long intensive training on building the conceptual understanding and analytical skills of the participants.

The Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute (Hindi) was established in 2007 to critically examine how various programmes, strategies and practices affirm or violate the sexual and reproductive health and rights of individuals, especially of women, young people and sexual minorities. CREA believes that building the self-confidence, leadership, and knowledge of women and girls about their sexuality and human rights, and creating feminist platforms to challenge oppressive norms and power structures will enable women and girls to make their own decisions, exert control over their bodies, and demand their rights. SELF Academy

CREA organised a 15 day residential camp, SELF academy from December 20, 2015 to January 3, 2016. Fifty young women participants, selected from the four districts of Jharkhand were offered opportunities of holistic development, apart from football coaching. The Academy was held at the Tribal Culture Centre, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.

CREA, through its programme, Ibtida, is strengthening feminist leadership at the community level in Jharkhand.

Traditional patriarchal structures pose hurdles in the path of women and girls in accessing their rights. Violence is a common part of their lives, including within families. When women get actively involved in their own development, it brings change not only in their lives but also in their entire community. Supporting one woman means uplifting an entire community.
