CREA invites applications for an upcoming training designed to strengthen the capacity of feminist disability rights practitioners. Unpacking the CRPD through a Gender and Sexuality Lens will equip participants with the skills to integrate intersectional perspectives into CRPD shadow reporting, ensuring inclusive and context-specific advocacy.
Training Overview
Objective:
- Build participants’ skills in incorporating gender and sexuality dimensions into CRPD reporting.
- Enable the development of impactful shadow reports that reflect the diverse realities of persons with disabilities.
- Equip participants with knowledge and tools to work with Concluding Observations to support CRPD implementation beyond shadow reporting.
Format:
This will be an interactive, hands-on training conducted in two components, including sessions on:
- CRPD frameworks and advocacy strategies.
- Practical exercises on issue reporting.
- Peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing.
- Implementation strategies for Concluding Observations.
Mode of Delivery: Fully online Total Duration: 18 hours + self learning hours
Target Participants:
- DSROI Alumni with a focus on women-led and LGBTQ+ disability organizations and activists.
- The training will host 20 participants to ensure diversity in the cohort through an interactive and engaging experience.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be a DSROI alumni.
- Have an interest in or experience with CRPD shadow reporting.
- Be available to participate in the full duration of the training.
Priority Considerations
Preference will be given to:
- Representatives of organizations for women with disabilities or LGBTQ+ persons with disabilities.
- Activists from countries undergoing CRPD review in 2025 or from the Global South.
- Activists working in cross-movement spaces and coalition building.
- Representatives of feminist or disability rights organizations, community organizers, lawyers, journalists, and researchers.
- Underrepresented groups within the disability rights movement.
Key Features
- Tailored Content: Sessions will focus on key CRPD articles, advocacy strategies, and concluding observations.
- Collaborative Learning: Peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and network building among feminist disability rights advocates.
- Practical Outcome: Participants will develop individual excerpts for reports or advocacy tools for concluding observations implementation and receive collaborative feedback.
