Call for Submissions: Art Competition
‘Visible/Invisible’: A CREA 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign 2024

Submission Deadline: 15 November, 2024

CREA is pleased to invite submissions for the ‘Visible/Invisible’ art competition, part of our 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. This year, we focus on themes of visibility, exclusion and resilience, while expanding the conversation to include gender inclusiveness in sports and online gender-based violence. We encourage submissions that explore these and other forms of gender-based violence and marginalization, offering space for a wide range of interpretations.

Submission Guidelines

Themes:

We welcome art that reflects on the idea of visibility, exclusion and resilience in the context of gender-based violence. This year’s specific focus areas are:

  • The experiences of gender-nonconforming athletes and the wider discussions around gender inclusiveness in sports, especially following the Paris 2024 Olympics.
  • Gender-based violence in online spaces, particularly against trans, intersex, disabled persons and sex workers.

However, submissions are not limited to these areas. We are looking for pieces that explore intersectional feminisms, rights of marginalized communities, access to services and efforts to challenge systemic barriers that lead to violence and exclusion.

Formats:

We accept a variety of formats to allow for creative freedom:

  • Visual submissions (e.g., illustrations, paintings, digital art): Must be submitted in high-resolution formats such as .jpg, .png, .psd, .EPS, .tif, .procreate, .CDR or .pdf. If your piece is hand-drawn or is a physical sculpture, please submit a clear, high-quality digital photograph of the work.
  • Video submissions: Videos should be no longer than 60 seconds, and submitted in formats such as .mov, MP4, or .wmv. Short animations, video collages and spoken-word poetry are all welcome. Submissions in Portrait 9:16 aspect ratio is preferred, but not required.
  • Audio submissions: Submissions can include soundscapes, voiceovers or music, no longer than 60 seconds in MP4 format. Please ensure clarity of sound.

Compensation

Each artist whose work is selected will receive $100 as compensation.

Accessibility

To ensure that your work can be accessed and appreciated by everyone, we encourage artists to include:

  • Image descriptions for visual artworks, which provide a detailed explanation of the piece for those who may not be able to view it.
  • Captions for audio and video work to describe what is being portrayed or heard for accessibility.

Originality

All content must be original and created by the submitting artist. Submissions containing plagiarised material or artificial intelligence-generated content will be disqualified.

Multiple Entries

You are welcome to submit more than one piece, although compensation will be limited to $100 per artist.

Relevance

We seek artwork that contributes to the campaign’s overarching themes of visibility, exclusion and resilience in the face of gender-based violence. However, you are not restricted to the specific examples cited (sports, online GBV). We encourage art that challenges norms, uplifts structurally excluded voices and reflects the realities of those facing systemic violence and oppression, both visible and invisible.

Usage

By submitting your work, you agree to allow CREA to use your art as part of the ‘Visible/Invisible’ campaign across websites, social media platforms, and other promotional materials. All artists will be credited and CREA will notify selected artists before their work is published.

Submission Deadline: 15 November, 2024

All submissions must be made online to campaign.16days@creaworld.org.

Join us in amplifying the voices and experiences that remain too often invisible.
