FON

Feminist Opportunities Now

Feminist Opportunities Now (FON) is a four-year program that aims to build the capacity of feminist movements and to address and respond to gender-based violence (GBV). To do this, the FON program creates innovative and flexible funding mechanisms via sub-grants and capacity strengthening with an emphasis on reaching small and informal organizations and collectives. This program intends to strengthen the contribution of Southern feminist civil society organizations (CSOs) to addressing GBV through transformative approaches to social justice in terms of gender equality and women’s rights and through innovative interventions.

FON started in March 2022 and will continue till December 2025. Feminist CSOs who receive funding will assess their own needs and propose strategies for action, to which FON members will respond by providing tailor-made training and support in advocacy, organizational development, movement-building, financial risk management, and ethical documentation of stories and cases of violence. Through this project, FON aims to strengthen feminist CSOs for feminist action and create a global network for feminist organizations to share their experiences and expertise.

The FON consortium comprises the International Federation for Family Planning – African Regional Bureau (IPPF-ARO) as the project lead, CREA, Empow’Her (EH), International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), and Médecins du MondeFrance (MdM-FR) as the project owner. The consortium is funded by the French Government via the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement).
