Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute – Hindi

Organized by CREA, New Delhi, the Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute (SGRI) is a five day long, residential Institute, conducted in Hindi.

The seventeenth in the series, SGRI – Hindi is designed for the conceptual study of sexuality and its application to program interventions. The Institute examines the links between sexuality, rights, gender and health, and their interface with socio-cultural and legal issues. Participants critically analyze policy, research, and program interventions using a rights-based approach.

Shalini Singh – Shalini Singh is a feminist activists and lawyer. She has been working in the field of women’s issues for the last 25 years. At CREA, during the past 17 years, Shalini has been designing and managing all Hindi training programs and institutes, which includes the annual basic training on Gender and Sexuality, Feminist Leadership and Movement Building Institute and the Sexuality and Gender Rights Institute in Hindi. She also works on capacity building of the network of women’s organizations, imparting training on feminist leadership, women violence, gender, sexuality and law related to rights. She also leads the community-based program of action ‘Meri Panchayat Meri Shakti’. Apart from all these, Shalini oversees the work related to writing, translation and publication of all Hindi publications and training manuals.

Pramada Menon – Pramada Menon is a queer feminist activist. She works on issues of gender, sexuality and women’s human rights. She is the co – founder of CREA. Currently, she works as an independent consultant, makes documentary films and is also a stand-up performance artist.

Dipta Bhog – Dipta Bhog is the founder member of Nirantar Trust. She has worked as a journalist and activist for women’s rights and women’s literacy issues. She has over two decades of work experience in adult and girl education and rural journalism. She has worked in designing programs, its implementation and influenced policy making. She has trained women activists, teachers, students, researchers, government officials and master trainers at the national and regional (particularly South Asia) levels on the issue of gender and education. She has intensively studied school books from a feminist perspective. On the subject of gender in education, she was associated with the committee to form the National Curriculum Framework of 2008. Recently, she conducted a study on the subject of women’s leadership in non-government organizations working in rural areas. Dipta Bhog contributed to the setting up of Khabar Lahariya in 2002 and is also involved in training of women journalists in rural areas.

Chayanika Shah – Chayanika Shah is a queer feminist activist, researcher and teacher. She has written a lot on the politics of population control, reproductive technology, feminism, feminist views on science and sexuality and gender. Chayanika has been an active member of the violence against women forum, a voluntary, non-funded, autonomous women’s group based in Mumbai for more than thirty years. She has been associated with another Bombay-based voluntary queer feminist group, Labia, for the past twenty years. Labia is a group of lesbian and bisexual women and trans individuals. Chayanika has a Doctorate in Physics and taught the subject at a college in Bombay for two decades.

Ratnaboli Ray – Ratnaboli Ray is the founder and managing trustee of Anjali, a Kolkata-based organization. Anjali works in mental health, particularly with mental health institution, systems and communities to make them more intersectional and inclusive. Anjali works on the development of services and study of policies and human rights on mental health in India. Ratnaboli is a psychologist and has been working as a health activist for more than 15 years. Ratnaboli was awarded the Ashoka Fellowship in the year 2000 for work with Anjali.

Organizer

Founded in 2000, CREA is a feminist human rights organization based in New Delhi, India. It is one of the few International women’s rights organizations based in the Global South, led by Southern feminists, which works at the grassroots, national, regional, and international levels. Together with partners from a diverse range of human rights movements and networks, CREA works to advance the rights of women and girls, and the sexual and reproductive freedoms of all people. CREA advocates for positive social change through national and international fora, and provides training and learning opportunities to global activists and leaders through its Institutes.

Participants and Selection Process

All those who identify as a woman can apply for the training. Around 25-30 participants will be selected from all over India, based on their application form and their ability to demonstrate how they would apply the lessons of the Institute to the work they do. Individuals working on issues of sexuality, LGBT rights, sexual rights, sex worker’s rights, HIV/AIDS, violence against women, health, and/or gender are eligible to apply.

CREA requests you to send your applications to us at the earliest. Twenty-five to 30 participants will be selected on the basis of application form and work experience.

Participants are required to travel to Delhi and attend the Institute, on the shared date and time. All the participants will have to be present in Delhi during the entire program. This course is being organized in Delhi from 14th to 18th November 2022. Your accommodation will be arranged by CREA. You are expected to reach Delhi by the evening of 13th November and make your departure arrangements after 5pm on 18th November. Proficiency in reading and writing in Hindi is essential. We will share more details of the program with you after the selection process. Confirmation of selection will be sent only to the shortlisted participants by 20 October 2022.

Cost of Participation

There is no course fee. CREA will make arrangements for accommodation and food for the participants and shall reimburse arrival and departure ticket (second A/C train).

Venue and Dates

This program on Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute will be conducted every day from 14^th – 18^th November, 2022. Therefore, participants will be expected to stay at the venue. Participants may be required to meet with each other for group work and group readings beyond the Institute hours.

Submission of Application form

The application form should reach us on or before 15^th October, 2022. Applications will not be accepted after the due date. Confirmation will be sent to ONLY selected candidates by 20^th October, 2022.
