Advancing Sexual and Gender Diversity

Our approach to engaging with LGBTIQ/SOGIESC themes and constituencies recognizes the limitations of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Intersex Queer (LGBTIQ) and/or sexual orientation and gender identity and expression and sex characteristic (SOGIESC) frameworks and focuses on “sexual and gender diversity.”

Laws, policies, restrictions

CREA uses various national, international and human rights mechanisms, laws and policies as tools for movement building and cross movement collaboration with a primary aim to strengthen multi-stakeholder accountability.

Supporting women led networks

Ibtida (‘the beginning’ in Urdu) is a leadership development program that began in 2002 to support a network of organizations from the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand.

FLMBaRI (old)

Institutes are a key component of CREA’s capacity building strategy to support activists who can further the transformative goals of feminist movements.

Self Academy

The SELF (Sports, Expression, Leadership, and Freedom) Academy is a 15-day residential leadership, knowledge, and skills building academy for girls and young women in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.

Meri Panchayat Meri Shakti

In a country as large and diverse as India, local village councils play a key role in ensuring pressing community issues are appropriately considered and that the basic needs of residents are addressed.

Abortion Rights

Conversations around abortion are far from normalized. It is an issue deeply steeped in stigma and access to safe abortion services and right to bodily autonomy is denied to most women.

SGRI

CREA’s Sexuality, Gender and Rights Institute is an annual residential course that focuses on a conceptual study of sexuality and has been held since 2002.
